What’s involved?
On October 6th ActNow members Jess Maynard and Kaylee Hazel headed to the Outback for an experience of a lifetime with the ActNow Challenge.
The ActNow Challenge will see Jess and Kaylee volunteer on a range of health, arts and educational projects with the Yuendumu community, a remote indigenous community 290km north-west of Alice Springs on the Tanami Highway.
Yuendumu is a Warlpiri community with a population of 1300 people, and is the largest Central Australian community outside of Alice Springs.
Why should people do this?
For the next three months Jess and Kaylee will be sharing their personal reflections on ActNow, through a blog, photo galleries and video. So read up and follow Jess and Kaylee’s journey on the ActNow Challenge!
While they’re at Yuendumu, Jess and Kaylee will be working with the Warlpiri community at the Mount Theo Night School and the Warlukurlangu Artists Centre. The Mount Theo Night School gives better access to education for young people recovering from substance abuse through activities relating to literacy, numeracy, computer skills, art and craft, music, dance and life skills.
Warlukurlangu Artists Centre gives local indigenous artists access to materials and place where they can sell their artwork.
