Consumer actions
- Be an informed consumer and find out what companies do and do not test on animals at:
Choose Cruelty Free for Australia
Some other things to do
- Read product labels to be sure of what company makes the products you buy.
- Don’t purchase products made by companies that test on animals.
- Get healthy and help animals. Products that are animal friendly can be found at Woolworth's or Coles, but also at health food stores.
- Pass on your consumer conscious knowledge to friends and family, or create a broader awareness throughout your school, uni and community.
Other things to do
- If you are not comfortable with dissecting an animal you don’t have to. Contact the Human Education representative of Animals Australia for help on what other types of experiments you can do without using animals.
- Write to your local university and ask their position on animal experiments.
- Write to the Minister for local or state government to tell him/her your attitude to animal experimentation and your support for the National Animal Welfare Bill.
- Write to the federal ministers responsible for science and health. Check out the government toolkit for contacts and tips.
- Donate to or join an organisation that campaigns against animal testing
Animal Liberation Their main aim is to advocate for more humane treatment of animals.

Animals Australia runs specific campaigns against cruelty and has a campaign against animal testing.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Through PETA you can:
- Become an animal activist within PETA. http://www.animalactivist.com
- Find out more information about what American and international companies and charities test on animals. Many products made in America and tested on animals are sold here so expand your consumer knowledge.
- Join their campaign to boycott the pet food company Iams that cruelly test their pet food on dog and cats. http://www.iamscruelty.com/
World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA)-
With WSPA you can learn all about animal welfare issues as well as animal testing:
- Volunteer
- Fundraise or donate yourself
- Subscribe to newsletters
- Join their campaigns
- World Animal Week. Make some NOISE about helping animals with WSPA during October.
I want to do this!
