A Basket Brigade takes place when one person (or more) prepares one basket for personal delivery to a needy family or individual. These focus on helping the homeless, the elderly and the underprivileged, hence, going to some of the most needy during Christmas time. The Basket Brigade works across Australia and in conjunction with grassroots organisations to assist and provide services that they would otherwise struggle to provide, and provides families and individuals with food and treats they would otherwise go without over Christmas.

Where & When: The great thing about the organisation is that it was setup by motivational speaker Anthony Robbinswho experienced the gift of these hampers when he was younger as a boyand has since developed it internationally. So they are all over Australia: have a look and contact the relevant person in your area (there is bound to be one close by to you):

What: Join in by helping out the Basket Brigade by:
  1. Volunteering to pack hampers/gift baskets on the day
  2. Helping them to inquire about potential donations from companies for the hampers
  3. Donating money

Volunteering and Donations are essential to help this great organisation keep doing the great job that it is doing, particulary as it gets closer to Xmas. See more on their official Australian website: http://www.basketbrigade.org.au/

I think it is fitting to end this action with a quote that I found on Anthony Robbins website. It sums up, for me as a volunteer, the small but significant domino effect that we have on society through the accumulated contributions we make to others lives through ‘acting now’:

'Whatever we experience as a society is the accumulation of a host of small decisions we've all made as individuals and families.' Tony Robbins
