Things to do

Become a Heywirer

Submitted by: Mim | 4 comments

ABC Radio's Heywire is all about young people aged 16–22 from regional and rural Australia having their say about the things that are important for them.

This is the tenth year of the program and it’s time for celebration, as well as a time for change!

What’s new is that this year you can have your say in any format—whether it be in text, audio, pictures and moving images. All the details are on the web at http://www.abc.net.au/heywire/

Winning stories will be selected from the 41 ABC regions around Australia. These stories will be broadcast on ABC Radio, Triple J, ABC Online and some might even make it to ABC TV.

Each winner will be invited to take part in the all expenses paid Heywire Youth Issues Forum, held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra in February 2008.

Please pass on the news about Heywire so the young people you know have the chance to take part.

Prospective Heywirers can submit their entry directly online or print off the entry form and post it in.

Have a look the Heywire poster,  the funky postcard & the downloadable entry form.

Entries close 7 September 2007.

For entry details and further information visit www.abc.net.au/heywire  or call the freecall number ~ 1800 26 26 46.

Heywire is such a great program- I was lucky enough to be selected for the program when I was 16, it was an absolutely fantastic experience and one that I will never forget- its actually how I first learnt about Actnow, from the founder himself ! :P :D

This a good iniative but I always wonder how selective these processes are. As is often the case with any form of consultation, engagement or forum with young people: you have to be in it to win it. In other words, people who are already involved in things like these will most likely reap the benefits or get access to more opportunities like these while those who may not be as involved will sometimes miss out as a result. So, my best advice is to get involved in as many things as possible to open up one's opportunity for change or community involvement.

We should encourage this. It's an excellent initiative and I applaud Triple J radio.

This is a great idea. Rural and Regional area's of Australia always seem to be left behind.

I applaud the efforts of Triple J radio with their One Night Stand that they do every year and also the AWOL gigs. Small towns around Australia are being showcased and us city folk get to learn a little bit about what its like to live in a remote rural town.
