What’s involved?
Any individual, school, university, or community group that is interested in purchasing a doll should simply follow the link provided below, and a group of individually crafted, beaded Little Traveller pins will be sent to you. Each doll comes with a passport, which explains where it has come from and why. Any unsold dolls can be returned, so there is no cost or outlay for participating.
Why should people do this?
All proceeds from the dolls support the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This region has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDs ifection in the world-- in some parts, two thirds of the population in infected.
Half of the money raised will go directly to the beadworkers themselves-- enabling the makers to put food on the table, connect running water to their homes, make electrcity and purchase of essential items. Most importantly, they are symbols of hope and economic empowerment to those affected by HIV/AIDS.
The other half of the money will help to fund Hillcrest's new respite unit, a hospice for the sickest members of the community.
