What’s involved?
Amnesty International is calling for the Australian government to pass a motion urging the Japanese Government to recognise and compensate the 200,000 women who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military during WWII.
The Japanese Government's apologies have been inadequate and the government has refused to accept any legal responsibility.
Australia is one of the few allied countries that hasn't stood up and called the Japanese Government to account - Amnesty is calling on you to help get them to do this:
The symbol of hope for women who have survived this is the butterfly and to help these women Amnesty wants you to create an online butterfly on Amnesty's website by August 15th - the anniversary of WWII's end. The butterflies will then be sent to the Australian PM to pass a motion urging the Japanese Government to recognise and compensate survivors for what they had to endure.
Why should people do this?
Creating a butterfly online is a creative and easy way to show your support for these women and their cause and does not take much time at all to complete.
