What’s involved?
* Don’t drive! Use public transport, walk, run, roller-skate, skateboard or ride a pushbike to your destination. Not only will you save yourself money on petrol but you’ll also be helping out the environment by reducing the amount of pollution caused by driving cars.
* If you have to drive your car make as few trips during the week as possible.
* Walk to the local shops to get the paper or milk instead of driving. It could not only save you a short and unnecessary car trip, but is a good opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise, or to walk your dog.
* If you are travelling to the same destination as workmates or friends, travel together in one or a few cars, rather than all driving.
* Shop around for the cheapest petrol price! Be aware of the price of petrol at different petrol stations in your local area so you can identify the best-priced place to go for your petrol.
* Figure out which day of the week petrol is cheapest, and fill up then!
* Think green! Petrol is a fossil fuel and burning fossil fuels contributes to climate change. Take action and campaign for renewable and ‘clean’ energy resources, such as solar powered cars, by writing letters to the government. Visit the Greenpeace website www.greenpeace.com.au to find out how to contact governments and become involved in reducing the use of fossil fuels.
Why should people do this?
