What’s involved?
Feminism is a social movement that fights to eliminate the injustice of gender inequality. Yet there are many inaccurate, untrue and downright harmful myths and stereotypes that dominate what people think about feminism. For example:
MYTH: "Feminism aims to reverse gender inequality so that women dominate men"
MYTH: "Feminists hate men and all thing male"
MYTH: "All feminists are unfeminine, ugly, have short hair on their heads, and long hair every where else and don't wear bras"
MYTH: "Feminine women cant be feminists"
MYTH: "All feminists are Germaine Greer and/or radical and militant"
MYTH: "Men cant be feminists and feminism isn't relevant to men"
MYTH: "Feminism is redundant as women and men are now equal"
MYTH: "Feminism and motherhood/marriage/happy husbands are incompatible" This list could go on!
Take these myths, inaccuracies and stereotypes and bust them! Research feminism to arm yourself with a more accurate idea about feminism.
Go out and talk to people about feminism. Point out the myths, untruths and the stereotypes and give them the opportunity to gain a more accurate understanding of what feminism really is and what it is not!
Why should people do this?
I call on anyone else who feels that its time feminism be given a fair hearing to ACTNOW and become a Myth Buster, so that we can show people what feminism is really all about!
I want to do this!
