What’s involved?

Australia is much more then just its major capital cities. We know and celebrate this on a daily basis at Heywire.

Heywire is a competition and a space for young people to share their stories, ideas and opinions with the ABC. It's open to young people aged 16- 22 years of age, who live outside of the major capital cities.

Everybody has a story.

Some stories describe heart-ache, some heart-break; some stories provide a safety-valve for passion; some stories share a new insight with the world; some stories are funny, some are totally off-the-wall. Some stories remind us all what it’s like to be human.

Everybody tends to think that their story isn’t worth telling: but this is only because they have lived that story already: they’ve already heard it.  Heywire is a chance for young people to share their stories.

It's pretty easy: Heywire runs an annual competition, encouraging young people to submit their video, audio, photographs, graphics or text to communicate a story or an idea reflecting their perspectives about life in rural and regional Australia.

Why should people do this?

This is a chance to express yourself above and beyond Myspace and Youtube. Tell your  story and it can be shared around Australia through the ABC.

The winning stories are broadcast on ABC Radio: Local Radio, triple j, Radio National, Radio Australia and ABC Online.

44 winners from across Australia win a place at the Heywire 2010 Forum in Canberra - a week long, all-expenses-paid trip.
