What’s involved?
Meals on Wheels is a volunteer organisation which delivers prepared meals to the homes of elderly or disabled residents who have trouble preparing nutritious food for themselves. The care of Meals on Wheels helps people to stay in their homes rather than having to seek a care facility.
Volunteering with Meals on Wheels is very flexible. You will be interviewed and will be able to volunteer your set of skills for an hour a month up to one or more full days per week. Particular Meals on Wheels organisations may require references, or police checks, since you will be entering the homes of clients.
You may be delivering meals if you are a driver with your own car, assisting another driver with deliveries, or helping out in the management or IT divisions. Costs you incur while volunteering such as petrol are reimbursed by Meals on Wheels.

Why should people do this?
Volunteering with Meals on Wheels develops social skills and community awareness. Meals on Wheels has a national day on the 27th of August, and holds conferences and community events for you and your friends to get involved in. Often local Meals on Wheels groups hold special days to thank and reward their volunteers too.
