What’s involved?
Y - It's All About You! is a unique leadership program for young people, primarily in year 10, who show potential to learn the skills of leadership.
Y Leadership involves four day-long workshops held at a community venue. Each workshop is facilitated by a YWCA NSW facilitator and is dedicated to exploring concepts such as leadership, communication, our role in the community, and career opportunities. Workshops culminate in a community project organised and led by the participants which puts into practice knowledge and skills gained throughout the program.
Mentors work alongside small groups of students and are integral to the program's success. Mentors participate in workshops to develop leadership skills, engage in future learning opportunities, and discover their leadership potentail. No specific expertise is required.
Mentors assist young people to:
- Identify and enhance their leadership skills
- Increase their confidence and capacity to make active decisions to improve their lives
- Be inspired to think about their ability to change not only their own lives, but also the lives of their families, schools and larger communities
- Develop awareness of their ability and responsibility to contribute to society, and to recognise their leadership role in the wider community
- Understand the diversity of occupations and career opportunities
- Network with adults who are role models and mentors.
