What’s involved?

The global commons may seem like a massive area comprising the entire planet and ecosystems within it. However, on a more community level, the idea of the commons can be broken down to natural public areas like beaches, parklands and bushlands and your local community. Protecting the 'commons' in this sense may be as simple as getting involved in groups like Millenium Kids or picking up litter and not polluting the environment. Or it could be about educating your friends about the idea of the commons and organising shared spaces which are recognised by the community. This could involve having community garden or introducing an open public space like a school or hall for public use, free from corporatism and private ownership. It is also possible to contact your local MP or the Federal Environment Minister, Hon. Ian Campbell via email at senator.ian.campbell@aph.gov.au about community level or global issues related to the global commons.
