Things to do

Red Hand Day!

Submitted by: adrienne | 0 comments

RED HAND DAY is when we stand together to help raise global awareness of the plight of child soldiers around the world in places such as Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan, Colombia, Myanmar, Philippines and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Children are kidnapped from their families and are forced to join rebel military groups. They are forced to kill, burn and steal, they are also subjected to violence, sexual abuse and manual labour.

It is therefore necessary to participate on RED HAND DAY 12 FEBRUARY to help stop this atrocity. This can be done through protests, demonstrations, making little red hand badges or participating in other activities.

Red Hand Day was initiated in 2002 when the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict entered into force on February 12

We encourage activities involving RED HANDS to attract media attention, as well as the attention of decision makers and opinion leaders.

Let us work together to help bring awareness of this human rights abuse and help end child soldiers!
