What’s involved?
The Australian Red Cross is looking to recruit a Volunteer Peer Educator for its save-a-mate (SAM) program. The position requires a minimum of 4-8 hours work per month and is based in Melbourne Metro North/West, Geelong and Regional Victoria.
Program and position summary
save-a-mate is a program designed to reduce incidences of harm and fatalities associated with substance use in young people through relevant first aid and peer education.
The Australian Red Cross save-a-mate Peer Education Program is an interactive, educational program that teaches young people how to recognise, prevent and respond to the occurrence of overdoses, including a nationally accredited cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course.
The save-a-mate (SAM) Peer Educator will work cooperatively with the Program Convenor, SAM Project Officer and Peer Education course organisers or Youth Event organisers, in the provision of the SAM service.
The SAM Educator will deliver SAM Peer Education Sessions at Secondary Schools, Youth Centres and Community Centres, and provide Health Promotion at Youth Events & Festivals as required.
Note: volunteers will work in teams of two.
