Have you ever walked around the city or anywhere else for that matter and watched everyone rushing around trying to get somewhere. I always wonder where they’re going, what they’re doing and why they’re in such a hurry. Ever been that person rushing to get somewhere? Ever felt like you needed to look like you were in a hurry because everyone seemed to be?

Have you ever had to join the que at a supermarket with about 6 trolley fulls in front of you and all you wanted to buy was a cartoon of milk? Ever been that service assistant stressed at having such a long and frustrated que of customers?

Ever gotten on a full bus only to stand in a cramped isle on a hot afternoon? Ever sat next to a person on a bus or train?

We all find ourselves in these situations everyday and I think I speak for most of us when I say we don’t always respond in the most positive way. My point is that in our everyday activities, there are plenty of opportunities to do little things that can go a long way. Here are a few that I think we can all do everyday that will brighten up someone else’s day and may even encourage them to do the same. If you think of any others, please add them to the list.

1. Smile when you make eye contact with the stranger on the bus/train/in the street.
2. Say Hello to the bus driver.
3. Offer your seat to another passenger.
4. Say thank you and please and mean it.
5. Be helpful. Help the shop assistant pack your goods into bags.
6. Have a conversation with the person sitting next to you, whether on a train, on a bus, on a ferry, or where ever.
7. Help the lady/man with the pram up the stairs at the train station … before they ask for help.
8. Do things without expecting a thank you.
9. Shout someone a coffee or tea.
10. Talk to a stranger.
11. Make friendly conversation with the cashier.
12. Wave at the little kid sitting in front of you.
13. Treat people with respect.
14. Stick up for someone who’s being picked on.
15. Say have a nice day to the waiter/waitress and mean it.
16. Be polite.

17. ask a cashier how their day is going. sometimes all it takes is a kind smile to re-energise us at the end of a long day!
18. pay for the ticket of the person behind you on a bus
19. offer to carry to bags of an old lady leaving a grocery store.
20. if you see an opportunity for a Random Act of Kindness, go for it! you'll feel good, they'll feel good. It's a win-win :)

this is a great list, Josie =)
