Some small lifestyle changes that you can make today will have a big impact on the greenhouse gas emissions. Take responsibility for your own actions; try these simple tricks to reduce your household greenhouse emissions.

  • Buy energy efficient appliances. These not only emit less greenhouse gas, they can also save you money in energy costs over the life of the appliance.
  • Buy a laptop computer instead of a desktop computer. Besides looking cooler and being more portable, laptops use considerably less energy than their desktop counterparts.
  • Make sure your home or apartment is properly insulated to limit your furnace use. Avoid space heater as they are a major contributor to gas emissions.
  • Install a low flow or more efficient shower head. New models make it possible to have a great shower and conserve.
  • Lower the temperature of your hot water tank. Chances are you won’t even notice a few degrees differences, but the environment will.
  • Plant a tree. The benefits of trees are two-fold. Trees can help shade your house and cut energy expenditure while removing excess carbon from the air.
  • Recycle! It’s simple and fun. Recycling is possibility the easiest way to improve the environment.
  • Get involved at work or school. Help make your uni or workplace from environmentally friendly.
  • Buy food in reusable containers to avoid waste.
  • Buy items made of recycled goods, especially computer paper.
  • Combine your errands to avoid using more gas than necessary.
  • Use public transport. It’s cheap and efficient and who knows - maybe you will meet some new people.
  • When purchasing a new car, make sure that is fuel efficient. Opt for a model with better mileage than your old car.
  • TELL A FRIEND! Letting others know about your energy (and money) saving ideas will multiply their affect.

CONGRATULATIONS. If you have started to put these suggestions into practice you are well on your way to making a cleaner future for Australia.

I want to do this!
