WIND POWER - A BLIGHT ON THE AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE

On the 3rd of March 2007 the central Victorian community of Smeaton, with nearby hamlets of Campbelltown, Kooroocheang, Werona, Ullina and Moorookyle were given only one weeks prior notice to a meeting held on this date at the Smeaton Bowling Club.

THE TRUTH ABOUT WIND POWER

Say NO to destroying the beautiful Spa Country and its communities:

Why?

1. Interrupts the habitat of flora and fauna
2. Disturbs ground animals
3. Noise and vibration
4. Enormous amounts of cement must be put deep into the earth as a foundation 5. Roads and transmission lines
6. Disrupted water flow
7. Fragmented wildlife habitat
8. Shadow flicker
9. Subsonic noise
10. Strobe lights day and night
11. Visual intrusion and distraction
12. Degradation of social and natural environments
13. Misplaced taxpayer monies
14. Unproven benefits
15. Unable to directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions
16. Unreliable contracts
17. Comprise of resident’s quality of life
18. Run at low efficiency
19. Unreliable in the generation of energy

Wind ‘farms’ are implemented in the name of environmental care, but people need to do more research into their viability and efficiency. Too much faith is being put into their ability to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We strongly believe that the dubious benefits of wind turbines at Smeaton are far outweighed by the negative effects of their installation. Let’s think bigger about how we can clean up our environment, and more importantly, how we choose to live and use energy. We all know the damage caused by quick solutions to complex problems. Remember the cane toad and the carp...

Let’s not make more mistakes for our children to clean up. In 20 years time these dysfunctional, obsolete, 144 metre-high skyscrapers set in over 600 tonnes of cement will remain on our landscape forever more.

I want to do this!

the fatc of the matter is, would you like wind power and effect the scenery of a small area?

or would u like to put more CO2 into the atmosphere, increase sea level, increase global temperatures, cause more and geater intense storms. which will intern destroy so many more habitats and threat more species as well as human life.

its coming down to the fact that the effects of CO2 r so much greater, we need power from somewhere, wind power is not a solution, it is something to use in the mean time to immediately reduce the dangerous levels of CO2 entering the atmosphere while we still research a more long-term alterntaive source of energy.
