What is YCulture Metro?
YCulture Metro is a funding and development program for youth arts and culture projects based in metropolitan Perth.

YCulture Metro is delivered by Propel Youth Arts WA to promote the Drug Aware message.

Who is eligible to apply for a YCulture Metro Grant?

Eligible YCulture applicants must be 12 – 26 years old, live in the metro Perth area and be at an entrylevel of their arts practice or career.

Each project must approximately include:

i. Direct organisers - at least 2 young people (as the YCulture applicants)

ii. Direct participants - at least 6 young people (i.e. as secondary organisers and/or participants in workshops and/or participating artists - such as actors in a play)

iii. Indirect participants - at least 15 young audience members or attendees

What kind of projects can be funded?

YCulture Metro funds projects BY young people, FOR young people. The focus is on youth skills development and can include music workshops, script writing and production, skills development in graffiti art, writing and illustration, dance residencies, new media and the rest! Unfortunately, YCulture does not generally cover film and video productions or publications where the production is the main focus.

Checkout www.propel.org.au for examples of projects that have been successfully funded.

How much money can I ask for? What can YCulture pay for? You may apply for up to $3000.

Funding can cover many things such as:
• Artist Fees
• Materials
• Promotional costs
• Documentation
• Venue Hire
• Equipment Hire
…Just to name a few…

You may apply for a YCulture grant in conjunction with another funding source excluding West Australian Music’s RAMMPAAGE funding program.

When can I apply for YCulture?

• YCulture Metro applications can be lodged at any time Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm subject to availability of funds

. • YCULTURE Metro applications must be lodged at least 2 calendar months prior to the project beginning.

• Applicants are notified about the outcome of their application within 10 working days.

Are there any restrictions about where my project needs to happen?

Yes

Your project must happen in a location in the Perth metropolitan area. This means that we do not fund projects that include intrastate, interstate or overseas travel.

All projects must happen in venues that are non-smoking, non-licensed environments.

All YCulture Metro events must promote the Drug Aware message through signage, merchandise and verbal acknowledgement.

HOW?

4 Easy Steps

1. Come up with an idea for a youth arts and culture project.
 2. Contact the YCULTURE Metro Projects Coordinator at Propel Youth Arts WA to talk about what’s possible.
3. Get the details sorted: Who? What? Where? When? How?
4. Work with YCULTURE Metro Projects Coordinator to get it all down on an application form.

FINE PRINT - The Nitty Gritty

• All events and activities will be smoke, drug and alcohol free.
• YCulture will not fund projects that have already occurred.
• The project can’t be a fundraising activity or have the awarding of prizes as its main focus.
• Activities that are curriculum based or part of a school’s core activities will generally not be supported.
• YCulture doesn’t generally cover camps, conferences or conventions.
• Infrastructure cost (uniform, employment of core staff) and capital works (equipment purchases) will not be supported.
• Projects already receiving Healthway funding are not eligible for YCulture funding.

TIPS - What makes a good project?
• When applying for your grant do not worry yourself with convoluted language – be clear about what you want to do. If it is going to make your application more clear, Propel encourages tables, dot-points and simple sentences!

• A project that focuses on skills development. It is important that the direct participants involved in a project learn new skills and develop as artists / arts workers.

• Projects involving young people from marginalised demographics including Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD), Indigenous, Young people with disabilities and young people with a mental illness.

• A project supported by the community.

• A project with other financial and in-kind support. PLEASE NOTE: In-kind support includes labour, administrative support, rent-free accommodation or donations of materials or equipment.

What makes a good YCulture

• Someone who is clear about what they want!

• When you first contact your YCulture Projects Coordinator, give them both your email and telephone number.

• Someone who keeps communication lines clear and open. Always let the Projects Coordinator know the best way to contact you.

• Someone who is not afraid about using the existing resources around them.

• Someone who is happy to take constructive criticism and ask for help when they need it.
