ActNow Challenge

Can you see yourself in Central Australia, meeting amazing people, learning more about Indigenous Australia, and giving something back to our community?

If so, then it sounds like the ActNow Challenge is something for you.

The ActNow Challenge brought to you by ActNow and Youth Challenge Australia will give two young people aged 21–25 years an opportunity to spend 10 weeks working alongside an Indigenous community on a range of projects. You’ll have opportunities that include:

  • supporting mothers and children at a child care centre
  • helping local Indigenous artists access art materials and find ways of selling their artwork
  • creating fun activities to help young people at night school increase their literacy, numeracy, computer skills, music, dance and life skills
  • assisting with after-school sport and recreational activities.

During your 10 weeks you’ll be asked to photograph, blog and upload stories and videos to share on ActNow. And to help you do that, you’ll receive an awesome technology pack — a laptop, digital camera and video camera — and a selection of books on contemporary Indigenous issues. Four runners-up will receive book packs, thanks to Allen & Unwin book publishers.

How to enter:

You need to be aged 21-25, living in Australia and available from October 2008. Please read our terms and conditions here before entering and if you have any questions email the ActNow Crew. Otherwise, by COB on 30 June 2008 you will need to submit one of the following on our entry form http://www.actnow.com.au/challenge/enter.aspx.

Either:

a 500 word piece telling us why you want to take part in the Challenge;
or
a 250 word piece telling us why you want to take part in the Challenge, accompanied by 3 photos that bring your story to life;
or
a 1-minute video telling us why you want to take part in the Challenge

Successful applicants will receive training and support — before and during the placement — both from the ActNow team and from experienced volunteer managers at Youth Challenge Australia to ensure maximum benefit for everyone involved.
