Before I came to Australia for the semester I knew that integrating myself into my new home would be a challenge, so I dreamt up a couple of goals to shoot for.
One, get involved with your new community
Two, push yourself outside your comfort zone
Living in a college that supports a variety of clubs has provided me with a lot of opportunities to connect with classmates and take part in meaningful experiences.
The most memorable and rewarding experience I’ve been a part of has been the Buzz for Barnardos fundraiser. My college’s charity committee organised an auction to raise money for Barnardos Australia, a not-for-profit committed to aiding Australia's children and young people who suffer from neglect, abuse, poverty and homelessness.
So the fundraiser works like this:
Basically, whoever wins the bid is equipped with a razor and all creative styling rights to their victim’s hair! Thankfully my stylist was kinder than the rest.
Check out all the horrific looks that got created!
*Also, thanks to all who contributed to Barnardos; all funds that were donated through me added up to over $300!! Way to go!
