Not Everything Is What It seems....

Many young girls look at magazines and desperatly want to look like the girls in those magazines....not knowing that make up and photoshop makes those girls look perfect.

Many young girls looks through magazines wishing they looked as good as celebrities in magazines.

I am not sure who took these photos, but I received it as an email and I thought it was very interesting to see what celebrities look like before and after their makes up has been applied and before and after their photographs have been retouched and edited using Photoshop.

It just goes to show that famous people are just like the rest of us, they don’t have perfect skin and perfect hair 24/7!

Agreed with all of the above.
But the thing is, when pictures like this are shown, it's not empowering for anybody involved. The magazines are effectively saying that 'these celebrities look crap, just like you do!' You feel better about feeling bad about yourself. It's hardly a win for anyone involved.
Something needs to happen about the magazines and it is this; stop buying them. I feel cheap after I read a Famous or Who magazine. I actually feel less intelligent. Imagine how much better off we would be, mentally, if we kept an interesting book at hand to read instead of tabloid trash.
Once we stop reading and romanticising about celebrities, we'll be in a better place.

Guys you are so right! I also think it has heaps to do with the cullt of celebrity that is used to sell these magazines. I mean what girl doesn't know that these stars have been worked on for hours before their photos, and even the they're digitally altered! so why on earth is there still a market for these things? I must confess I bought one just this week. It's strangely alluring, almost in the same basket as reality tv. These people aren't just images, they project a personality or a style which we buy into and which we see mirrored in their image/clothes/products they promote. just some interesting thoughts.

oh man, does eva longoria really look like that?...

eww...

I think popular magazines these days are full of trash - fake images and useless content. There's so much insignificant gossip about people we will never meet, it's ridiculous!

As a male, how do I know? I have to admit, I work on a switchboard sometimes and woman's magazines are littered around my desk so I do take a peek now and then

why do people buy them?

Quite amazed...

I like this picture gallery. I remember when i was 12 and would look through magazines and just turn green with envy all the time. It didn't make matters easier when i was being teased as the 'hippo' of the class.

It makes it harder for girls to be themselves when there is a certain standard that has to be met. We're not manufactured dolls. We do not have a price tag on us.

I believe that the one thing which makes girls beautiful is confidence. Like my friend always tells me, "it's not the clothes you wear, it's how you wear it".
