Why do we exist ?

Throughout Asia, many animals are exploited, abused and neglected. Animals Asia Foundation is dedicated to ending cruelty and restoring respect for animals across Asia.

What do we do ?

Animals Asia works with local authorities and communities on a number of projects aimed at finding long-term solutions to problems of animal cruelty. Our Australian supporters raise funds for, and awareness of, our Moon Bear Rescue project, which involves rescuing 500 suffering and endangered bears from cruel bile farms in China and bringing them to our sanctuary in Sichuan Province. The bears, which can spend up to 20 years in coffin-sized cages, are milked daily for their bile through crude catheters or permanently open holes in their abdomens. The bile is used in traditional Chinese medicine, even though cheap herbal and synthetic alternatives are readily available. We have also signed an agreement with the Vietnamese authorities to rescue 200 bears there and are working towards an eventual ban on bear farming in Asia.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

We need young, energetic people like you to volunteer your time to help us spread the word about the plight of the bears and to raise the precious funds necessary for us to continue this vital work. There are many ways in which you can help to raise funds – picnics with a theme, barbeques, sports days, sponsored walks through parks, bike hikes and car boot sales. Or for evening events, you could hold movie nights, bowling parties, dress-down dinner parties, in-house cocktail parties, etc. You could also join a Moon Bear Rescue Support Group. Please contact us by email and we will be happy to give you more details.

Other Stuff

Animals Asia runs a number of other projects, such as Dr. Dog, our innovative animal therapy programme. Dr. Dog sees over 300 “dog doctors” visiting hospitals, homes for the elderly, disabled centres and orphanages across Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Japan, India and Taiwan spreading unconditional love and warmth to people in need, while highlighting the positive role that companion animals can play in society. Our volunteer dogs also take on the role of teachers in our “Professor Paws” project. Special hands-on lessons are designed to improve the children’s English-language skills and confidence, while encouraging children to care for animals.
