Why do we exist ?

'To attract and manage a force of volunteers in practical conservation projects for the betterment of the Australian environment’.'

What do we do ?

Conservation Volunteers Australia involves the community in conservation projects in urban, regional and remote Australia ranging from tree planting; seed collection; endangered species protection; weed control; flora and fauna surveys; walking trail construction; fencing and environmental monitoring.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

Conservation Volunteers Australia welcomes everyone with a love of the outdoors and an interest in the environment. We have many opportunities for young people to volunteer in their local community and more remote locations.

CVA offers training in Certificate 1 in Active Volunteering, which is a formal qualification that recognises the competencies volunteers achieve through volunteering.

Many young people find that volunteering and the Certificate 1 in Active volunteering are great ways to get hands on experience in the conservation/environmental industry.

In addition to this, CVA also manages the Green Corps program - Green Corps is an Australian Government youth development and environmental training for young people aged between 17 and 20 years. Green Corps provides young people with the opportunity to volunteer their time and effort to conserve preserve and restore Australia's natural environment and cultural heritage.

As a Green Corps participant you will receive a Training Allowance of $283 per week. All projects run for 26 weeks. Specifically for climate change, planting trees (at the right time of year) and protecting native vegetation helps to soak up Carbon Dioxide from our atmosphere. In many cases our projects are designed to protect and enhance the natural environment which will help native plants and animals survive projected changes to the world's climate.
