Why do we exist ?

Easy Care Gardening is a gardening service by volunteers for frail aged and people with a disability on a pension in the Ku-ring-gai, Hornsby, Ryde and Hunters Hill districts of northern Sydney. Volunteers work in teams and will weed, prune, mulch, tidy and make gardens safe for the client. We exist because without this service many of these people would not be able to cope with the upkeep of their garden and often lose their independence as they move into an institution. This service means that they can continue to live in their own home.

What do we do ?

As outlined in the previous section, Easy Care Gardening volunteers work in teams in the gardens of the clients. The work involves weeding, pruning, mulching and making gardens safe and tidy.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

Younger volunteers have the opportunity to work alongside more experienced garden volunteers and learn about the plants and the garden and the best way to do things in the garden. Volunteers often go on to study horticulture and learn more about plants and gardening.

Other Stuff

Easy Care Gardening volunteers find the work very satisfying as you are able to immediately see the difference your work makes for the client. The clients are very grateful for the help they are receiving. Volunteers also enjoy working in a team as there are lots of opportunities to learn more about gardening and to simply chat with others while working outdoors.
