Why do we exist ?

The Edmund Rice Centre was founded to promote social justice and social change. We focus on a range of human rights issues, particularly Indigenous rights and reconciliation, and the rights of asylum seekers and refugees. We engage in research, advocacy and projects to raise community awareness and engage people in positive solutions.

What do we do ?

We have a range of research projects that focus on community education.

This includes our Deported to Danger research into the fate of deported asylum seekers. We run a series of immersion programs in collaboration with partner organisations in Aboriginal communities within Australia and communities overseas. The programs are particularly aimed at high school and university students, taking participants to meet with non-government organisations and community activists in particular communities.

We also run awareness campaigns around environmental issues, and work closely with other non-government organisations here and overseas.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

The Edmund Rice Centre welcomes young people with research skills wanting to become more involved in community awareness campaigns through the publications of community education materials. We are also part of a network of advocacy organisations campaigning for human rights. This can involve organising events and project coordination. Finally we run a number of immersion and cross-cultural programs designed for and with young people.
