Why do we exist ?
Between May and June 2006, residents of Sambok Chab village in inner Phnom Penh were violently removed from their homes by riot police carrying guns, explosives and batons.
Our long term goal is to provide remedial education, sports and recreation activites, arts and culture activities plus food aid and creative arts therapy to displaced children on a daily basis.
What do we do ?
The Happy Garden Childrens Centre, opened in April 2008, is FCF's largest and principal project. On a daily basis, the centre provides remedial education courses in Khmer and English to approximately 100 children between 2 and 18 years of age. Workshops on clean water, health, hygiene, personal safety, HIV / AIDS, substance abuse and activities such as arts, crafts, games, and sports are held regularly.
Fresh water and first aid are provided, as well as referral and support for more series long-term medical cases.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
Any support you can give us is greatly appreciated as we initially intended to serve 30 children, however the program has expanded to serve 100 due to the immense need in the community and the centre’s success in addressing these needs.
