Gateway Social Support Options

Gateway exists to provide social support to our client group (frail older people) who are at risk of isolation and premature admission to long term institutionalised care, whilst also ensuring clients maintain social independence, emotional, social and intellectual well being and an overall quality of life.

GSSO provides flexible and responsive HACC (home and community care) funded social support to frail older people, people with disabilities/complex needs and their carers. Gateway is committed to the inclusion of eligible HACC individuals in its planned activity groups and various social support options. Social support includes:

One-on-one support through our friendly visiting program

Planned group activities, i.e., woodwork, bowling etc

Transporting clients to various recreational activities

Volunteering with Gateway gives you many opportunities to start life in the right direction. Everybody, including young people, can make new friends, improve their social skills, learn and exchange/share skills plus be part of a network of people who have a common interest, i.e. volunteering in your community, helping and socialising with our ever increasing ageing community.

Volunteering can also be beneficial to younger people for future referee contact details on their resumes and good work experience for those who are studying in the aged care industry, psychology, PCA or disability areas.

GSSO also works in partnership with other organisation such as Western Region Health Centre, and provides volunteer support to assist with another variety of recreational activities with clients who are either living in SRS's (i.e. Supported Residential Services), or living in high rise accommodation. These other volunteering roles include:

Vegetable gardening

Community kitchen

Gym or tai chi instructor assistant

Ten-pin bowling/carpet bowls

Music enthusiasts

Driver/jockey
