Why do we exist ?
We run campaigns and lobby government and non-government bodies to achieve legal equality and social justice for lesbians and gay men.
What do we do ?
Since 1988, the Lobby has successfully led the fight to ensure lesbians and gay men in NSW are treated equally. To date, our campaigns have led to major reforms including:
- Establishing the Anti-Violence Project and lobbying for the introduction of Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officers in police stations across NSW;
- Anti-vilification anti-discrimination legislation in 1993;
- De facto relationship rights for NSW same-sex couples in 1999;
- Equal age of consent in 2003;
- Superannuation rights in 2004.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
- Becoming a GLRL Member - membership only costs $25 ($10 for Concessions, such as students) and helps to support our campaigns for equality. Members receive monthly e-mail updates on our campaigns and achievements, invitations to upcoming Lobby events, as well as the chance to vote in the AGM and information. You can download the form and post or fax it back to us online: http://www.glrl.org.au/pdf/Membership_Form.pdf
Our website also has fantastic research resources for school, university, TAFE or college assignments.
