Why do we exist ?

To provide support for ‘at-risk’ young people aged 12-24 yrs who occupy the Glebe area. The Department of Community Services is the major funding source, through the Community Services Grants Program (CSGP). The City of Sydney is the secondary source and they fund the Extended Hours recreation program, some casework and the food program. Additional funds come from locals such as the Glebe Chamber of Commerce, the Ancient Briton Hotel and Glebe Society. The school is presented in partnership with TAFE Outreach who expend funds on teachers for our program.

What do we do ?

Glebe youth service provides young people with a safe space to engage in activities such as sport, art classes, games, dance, and music production. Some programs are gender specific and programs cater for individuals with CALD backgrounds.

The service advocates on behalf of young people , helping them to get what they need from agencies, employers and the wider community. Staff may also assist young people by refering them to other agencies.

The service runs a year 10 program with TAFE Outreach Ultimo and with the support of Sydney Secondary School. This program provides young people with the opportunity to complete their year 10 Certificate at their own pace. Students who have not been recently studying on a regular basis benefit enormously from these programs.

Each day Glebe youth service provides over 30 meals to young people. For some young people this meal may be the only nutritious meal they are able to get all day.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

Glebe youth Service is often the first point of contact for young people who are facing difficult circumstances. Workers at the service are available to sit down and have a chat with anyone who is experiencing difficulties or just want someone to talk to.

The service also gives young people the opportunity to meet new friends who live around the area. The service gives young people a chance to make the best of their circumstances, even when things are really difficult. Young people are given great opportunities to learn more about themselves and others by taking part in the leisure activities and groups that are held on a regular basis every week.
