Why do we exist ?

Greening Australia was formed in 1982 by the United National Association of Australia and the Nursery Industry Association of Australia, to mark the international Year of the Tree. On World Environment Day of that year, the then Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser, announced the establishment of the National Tree Program, which aimed to reverse tree decline throughout Australia. Greening Australia provided the non-government arm of this program. Greening Australia has since grown from a small community-based organisation into a highly professional team of vegetation and community engagement specialists with over 350 staff across Australia.

What do we do ?

Greening Australia works in partnership with landholders, the community, government and business to tackle environmental degradation in a practical, apolitical, scientific way. Greening Australia uses an innovative blend of science and on-ground experience to address critical issues like salinity, declining water quality, soil degradation, climate change and biodiversity loss.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

As part of our mission to work with the community to manage native vegetation across Australia, Greening Australia delivers the Australian Government’s Green Corps program in partnership with Job Futures. Green Corps provides young people between the age of 17-20 years the chance to work on exciting environment and heritage projects while receiving accredited training and a youth allowance.
