Why do we exist ?
To campaign for the introduction of a national Human Rights Act for Australia.
What do we do ?
We have produced a draft Human Rights Bill and we in the process of raising awareness and seeking community feedback on it. We do this by conducting and participating in community events, researching and writing articles and letters, and providing information to the media and community groups. In August we will re-launch a refined version of the Bill, at which point we will begin lobbying members of parliament. We aim to the have the Bill tabled and debated in the federal parliament before the end of the year.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
Young people can write articles, make submissions and volunteer. Volunteers assist with the running of the campaign, with admin, calling organisations and organising petitions.
Other Stuff
We would welcome view from young people about how the Bill could be improved to protect their rights.
Human Rights in Australia - Have your say, whatever it is.
Australia is the only Western country without a national Human Rights Act or Bill of Rights. We think Australia CAN do better and that we need to CHANGE - but as Australia's young people....we want to have a SAY in shaping the future of our country.
