Why do we exist ?

HRAFF exists as an effort to shift human rights education from the textbook onto a more entertaining agenda. We want to connect everyday people with organisations that respond to their human rights concerns as well as encourage a more vibrant human rights dialogue in Australia. Human rights should be a natural part of everyday life, and something everyone understands.

This year HRAFF is focussing upon generating artworks, films and community initiatives that will give expression to the human rights tragedies and triumphs that occur in our society as well as build a stronger and more supportive advocacy network.

What do we do ?

We put on a yearly arts and film festival that showcases works which highlight significant human rights issues. While this has the important function of making human rights more accessible, the program also provides the many organisations and people working within the human rights field with the opportunity to celebrate their achievements.

HRAFF funds and facilitates artworks and films that are based around core human rights issues. To learn more visit our website!

We also run community initiatives such as Street Bred and the September prisons Book Drive. These are a great way of making human rights an active issue as well as creating pathways of cooperation between organisations and communities.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

Young people can become involved by volunteering. In particular, the Street Bred scheme connects youth with bakeries and welfare organisations in their local area. This provides an easy way for youth to get involved with human rights and make a significant contribution to their own community. The program requires less than an hours commitment a week! Details will soon be up on our website but to become a part of the Street Bred team now, email janna@hraff.org.au

We also have positions within festival production that anyone is welcome to apply for.
