Why do we exist ?

LKPY (Loving Kindness Peaceful Youth) aims to create a space for young people to engage in developing peace for themselves, their communities and the world as a whole.

Peace starts with individuals developing the basis of their own inner peace – kindness, patience, tolerance, generosity. Peace for all.

What do we do ?

We are a non-profit organisation based in Australia with a worldwide scope. We are run by young people for young people. LKPY thinks that practical contributions to peace come in many forms – from addressing immediate social concerns, to uncovering individual talents in the arts, to providing a global platform for dialogue.

We launched in June 2007 and kicked off with ‘Habit’ meetings, the ‘Talking Peace’ project and the LKPY Seed Grant.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

LKPY doesn’t have age limits, anyone can be involved. We are always looking for more people to get involved.

Habits project: Habits are regular gatherings held at cafés or other chilled out venues. This is tea time for the soul... a chance to catch up with like minded people, slow down, change your thinking, workshop the way the world works, learn, listen, collaborate, and be passionate about making a difference.

In 2007 Habit’s are being launched in: Australia (Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast), New Zealand (Wellington), USA (Ketchican, Boston), UK (London), France (Paris) & Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)

Pieces of peace project: What does peace, love, happiness or kindness really mean to you? This is your chance to express it through art, painting, photography, whatever way you wish.

So get your creative juices flowing and send us your ideas with a max. 100 word explanation of what and why you have sent it.

In the future we’ll be using your contributions to create a book to celebrate the next generation’s vision of peace. Until then, check out our website to see some of the pieces we’ve already received.

Talking peace project: Talking Peace are annual forums that initiate positive dialogue.

Young people ask a Nobel Peace Prize Winner the big questions about creating peace. Each year, the events will be documented and the momentum is carried forward into future Talking Peace projects.

On June 8th, 2007, The Dalai Lama in Australia Ltd. are organising an event ‘Open Arms for Peace’ with Nobel Peace Prize winner, the Dalai Lama, in Melbourne at the Rob Laver Arena (www.dalailama.org.au) at which our Talking Peace Coordinator, Freeman will be a guest speaker on the day and was also on the organising committee. LKPY produced the film for this event and is creating a documentary about it. This is the style of event that we aim to model our future Talking Peace events on.

Deliberate acts of kindness project: Acts of kindness occur everyday. This project is about consciously promoting and celebrating acts of kindness, big and small.

1000’s of Acts of Kindness postcards will be distributed throughout the world – asking people to commit to, carry out and tell us about their Deliberate Act of Kindness.

From putting money into someone’s parking meter, to shouting Sunday morning coffee’s at your local café, to painting someone’s house when they can’t do it them selves.

Tell us about your ‘Act’ and we’ll publish them all on the LKPY web-site.
