Why do we exist ?
NAPCAN Foundation exists because the issue of child abuse and neglect continues to be Australia's most serious social problem.
We firmly believe that the way to prevent this is to encourage all members of the community to get involved in the promotion of children’s wellbeing by creating child friendly communities at the local level, and so help to build a child friendly Australia
What do we do ?
A child friendly community is one where kids' can : Play a Part
Reach their Potential ; Live Well ; and are Free from Harm
NAPCAN seeks to raise awareness within the wider community, to inspire the community to take action in the promotion of the wellbeing of children, and to sustain the community in these endeavours.
NAPCAN coordinates the annual National Child Protection Week (Sept 3rd-9th 2006). The theme for this year is Young Visions for a Child Friendly Australia, encouraging adults to engage young people, and to listen to and act upon their visions.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
NAPCAN produces a series of prevention tools, including parenting brochures in 6 languages. These can be ordered online, or downloaded in pdf format.
NAPCAN is in the final stages of forming a Youth Advisory Committee, which will assist in developing a Young Visions Kit, including a website exclusively for children and young people, to help us map what a child friendly Australia can and should look like.
Other Stuff
NAPCAN speakers are also available for information sessions in the local community
