Why do we exist ?

Within Nepal, many sections of the community live in poverty and are unable to access education, health services, information and resources necessary to bring positive and lasting change for themselves, their environment and their own community. To support the underprivileged communities of Nepal and in particular the disabled, women and children, and youth, PSD has been formed. Partnership for Sustainable Development-Nepal (PSD-Nepal) is a not-for-profit Non Governmental, social development organisation. Established in the year 2002, it has been registered with the District Administration Office under the Organizational Registration Act. PSD has been affiliated with the SWC (Social Welfare Council) and is a member of the NGO Federation of Nepal.

PSD-Nepal is dedicated to the alleviation of poverty, sustainable development and the empowerment of communities within Nepal. PSD-Nepal recognizes that the survival, protection and development of the most vulnerable members of society (the disabled, women and children, and youth) is imperative and integral to Nepal’s growth.

What do we do ?

PSD has several core businesses which are all aimed at the development of rural children of Nepal. One of the major focus areas of the PSD program is Rural Education Development. When we dream to strengthen rural education, we have to consider main issues such as; lack of adequate number of teachers, the trained teachers and lack of basic physical facilities. Thus the main programs of PSD consist of small scale development programs (where funds are raised to providing basic facilities in rural schools and communities), strengthening local partner organizations through evaluations, trainings and consultancy, the volunteer program and a child sponsorship program.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

As a part of the aim to strengthen rural education, PSD-Nepal offers medical, summer (5 weeks) and long term (3 to 6 months) volunteer programs. However, PSD is welcoming any interested volunteer (or group) from any back ground/profession at any time of the year, for any duration in time.

The mission and objective of the volunteer programmes is to encourage and invite International/National volunteers to contribute in the areas of rural community development, education development and environment and nature conservation. These kinds of project will also help to increase the pride and boost moral amongst the community and encourage them to take local initiation for development activities themselves.

When arriving in Nepal each volunteer will undergo in-country training. The training includes Nepalese language classes for basic Nepali conversation skills (in groups of three), cultural adjustment lessons and full details of the assigned project as well as any specific skills/training needed for successful accomplishment of the project.

Volunteers work 30-35 hours per-week, where aid is most needed. They will be accommodated in a Nepalese family to fully experience the culture of Nepal.

Becoming a volunteer with PSD-Nepal is very easy. Please visit our website www.psdnepal.org and fill in our application form, or send an email to psdnepal@mail.com.np explaining what kind of volunteer work you would like to do.
