Why do we exist ?

The ReconciliACTION Network is a network of Indigenous and non-Indigenous young Australians from metropolitan, regional and rural Australia, which aims to encourage more young people to become active in the Reconciliation movement, and to support young people who are working to overcome racism in their communities.

What do we do ?

Our name—'ReconciliACTION'—reflects the belief that Reconciliation has to be about more than just words. It is about making changes through action—and young people having an important role to play in determining changes in their community. The ReconciliACTION Network regularly organises youth anti-racism workshops and forums. Our most recent projects have been...

  • Freedom Rides 2005—to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the original Freedom Ride ReconciliACTION filled up a bus with young people passionate about reconciliation and retraced the original 'Freedom Ride' journey visiting 13 communities throughout regional NSW. Our aim was to get Australia talking about the face of racism today, as well as connect with young people across NSW to find out their views on how Australia can move forward in reconciliation. During the trip the riders filmed their experiences and interviewed people in the communities. This footage is now being put together in a Freedom Ride 2005 documentary and will also be used as part of the ReconciliACTION education kit.

  • National Youth Workshop—Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people from across Australia came together to talk about racism, reconciliation and Indigenous rights issues, what we can do about it. From this new local and state based groups have formed and become active.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

The ReconciliACTION Network is a not-for-profit network run entirely by young people. The network is open to all young people aged 16–29 years who are committed to overcoming racism in their local communities.

  • Become a member of the ReconciliACTION Network (membership is free) and join our e-list.

  • Come along to one of our regular meetings.

  • Join one of our project working groups to help out with a project.

Other Stuff

The ReconciliACTION Network (RAN) has become the largest and most successful youth Indigenous rights and Reconciliation group in the country. Young people across Australia are taking leading roles in the community through their work to promote reconciliation and the rights of Indigenous Australians.

I am a current member and i really encourage people to get involved. The best part of the network is that there is no pressure - you can be involved and help out with projects you are interested in when you have the time. And it is always just great to meet up with people and talk about this issue that has been in the darkness, off the mainstream agenda, for so many years.

While I was a TAFE I did a work placement with ReconciliACTION. I helped plan one of their national workshops held in Sydney - it was good fun but also great to sit in on the mini workshops throughout the day and learn and hear about issues that are important to me.
