Why do we exist ?
The SHAK Youth Recreation and Development Centre is one of the largest youth recreation centres in Northern Australia and was established to allow young people to have a place where they can have fun, be comfortable and safe.
What do we do ?
Managed by the Australian Red Cross, it runs a variety of programs both in and outside the centre and works closely with the community to ensure that it’s services are relevant and appropriate.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
With more than 200 young participants a week from all over the top end and a variety of youth groups that cater for all tastes, the SHAK is pleased to be able to provide the new and improved Networx Room with Internet capable computers with thanx to the Inspire Foundations' Beanbag Project.
Other Stuff
There is a Music room where young people can experience a variety of musical instruments and have time to fine tune their musical skills with our Youth Arts Officer. Some well recognised NT bands have begun there careers from our Music Room.
There is a Canteen, a Pool Table and Table Tennis Area and a Sports Area overseen by our Youth Recreation Officer.
The Multimedia Room has several computers that are capable of word processing and printing.
