Why do we exist ?

Save the Children (Australia) is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance, a federation of 27 member countries. Working in over 110 countries, Save the Children is the world’s largest independent child rights development organisation. It was established in Australia in 1919 and works with disadvantaged children to reach their potential through education, health and child protection programs.

Save the Children works for a world:
  • Which respects and values each child
  • Which listens to children and learns
  • Where all children have hope and opportunity

What do we do ?

Save the Children Australia manage and implement programs in Australia and the developing countries of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Vietnam.

We have extensive experience in the education, health and child protection sectors, covering HIV and AIDS, microfinance, community development, water and sanitation, education, income generation, youth outreach, child protection and child rights.

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

Save the Children Australia has a program called “Speaking Out” whereby trained presenters visit schools to give voice to the poor children of this world who cannot tell their own story. A teacher/student resource book is available for primary and secondary schools.

A video detailing our work in Bangladesh is available for distribution to schools.

“Skip a Treat” is a fundraising campaign run throughout Australia, encouraging schools and companies to go without a treat, the money they save will go to Save the Children…. A little treat can make a big difference.

Many ways you can help through volunteering:
  • In a shop
  • Join a local branch
  • Take part in fundraising events
  • Help with fundraising collection
  • Administrative support.
