Why do we exist ?
Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the worlds ocean in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
What do we do ?
In locations across the globe, Sea Shepard uses innovative, direct action tactics to investigate, document and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas.
By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately balanced ocean ecosystems, sea shepard works to ensure their survival for future generations.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
Sea Shepards website
www.seashepard.org provides young people with the oppurtunity to be educated on marine conservation and understand the impacts that illegal activities can have on the enviroment and the planet as a whole.
Sea Shepard empowers young people to take action and make a difference, however big or small! In Perth, our youngest active member is 9 years old and we have high school and uni students all coming together on a voluntary basis with the common goal of protecting and preserving our oceans.
With oceans making up to 80% of the world it needs to be protected and Sea Shepard recongnises that young people play a huge part in ensuring our oceans have a future!
Other Stuff
In Australia one of our biggest campaigns has been raising the profile of illegal activities by the Japanese whaling fleet in the southern ocean. In the 2007-2008 Whaling campaign Sea Shepards actions saved 484 whales otherwise targetted for certain death under the guise of 'scientific research'
Sea Shepard encourages all young people to raise awareness around this issue and to urge the current labor Federal Government to act on their pre election promises of May 2007.
We invite people of all ages to come down to our ship, The Steve Irwin, which is berthed at the Docklands in Melbourne to visit this whales navy-the most effective marine conservation group in the world.
