Why do we exist ?

To protect and improve the rights of tenants (ie. renters) in Victoria.

What do we do ?

  • we give free advice and assistance to tenants who are having a problem with their real estate agent or landlord
  • we produce free publications for tenants including 30+ fact sheets, the Tenant's Handbook and our newsletter Tenant News
  • we do research into conditions for tenants so we can write reports and run campaigns
  • we get articles and stories about renting in Victoria in the media (newspapers, radio, TV etc)
  • we put pressure on the government to give tenants better legal rights

What opportunities do we have for young people ?

You can check out the current campaigns section on our website and share your experiences with our Policy Team. We are interested in real stories from real people as these can help us explain to the government how some of their policies are a problem for young renters. Sometimes we also take these stories to the media (with your permission of course).

You can also email the Editor of our newsletter Tenant News to share a story about your agent or landlord (no names are printed). By joining the Tenant News mailing list, you can keep up to date with tenancy news, major issues affecting renters and the latest information on your tenancy rights. If you need information or advice about your tenancy, phone our Advice Line on 9416 2577 or email us at advice@tuv.org.au
