Why do we exist ?
3RRR’s mission is to educate, inform and entertain by drawing upon appropriate community resources and to develop a critical approach to contemporary culture.
What do we do ?
3RRR has been around since 1976 and is Australia's largest community station with 11,000 subscribers and 330,000 listeners per week.
Triple R boasts 64 different programs. Programs are devoted to topics such as arts, the environment, medical issues, movies, food, science, computers, architecture, pop culture and gardening, as well as a diverse range of music programs featuring Australian music, country, jazz, rock, world music, electronic, blues, roots, hip-hop, reggae, instrumental and metal.
Who listens to Triple R?
Many listeners are socially aware; they tune in for the presentation of issues from different perspectives. Others are in the cultural vanguard and listen to discover new music and trends and to be challenged by new ideas.
19% of our listeners are aged 18 to 24, 45% are aged 25 to 39 and 24% are aged 40 to 54.
Does Triple R help local performers and bands?
Triple R and its listeners have supported local and independent music regardless of its commercial potential. Many artists attribute the vibrancy of Melbourne's local live music scene to the continuing role Triple R has played nurturing this industry.
This support is in the form of air-play, demo programs, live-to-airs, programs devoted exclusively to Australian music, free gig guides and Triple R's own CD releases featuring local artists.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
Triple R has a range of volunteer opportunities and work experience placements. Contact the station for more information.
