Why do we exist ?
Volunteering Australia exists to ensure that the rights and conditions of all volunteers are protected, that their involvement is governed by standards designed to ensure that they are not exploited and their work is of social, cultural, environmental and economic value to Australia
What do we do ?
Volunteering Australia provides a national focus for volunteering with:
- GoVolunteer: a free, online volunteer recruitment service, featuring around 9,000 opportunities nationally;
- Many free online resources and information guides to assist volunteer organisations and individuals
- National advocacy and policy development in the area of volunteering;
- Comprehensive volunteer and manager-of-volunteers training and skills development centre
- Avalon – an extensive specialist library network on volunteering with over 6,000 individual resources;
- Employee volunteering development service
- The Australian Journal on Volunteering, the only Australian tertiary-level, peer-reviewed journal in volunteering;
- Publication and ongoing development of National Standards for Involving Volunteers in Not for Profit Organisations
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
Volunteering Australia helps young people get involved in their communities and in particular sectors or projects through volunteering (such as environment, sports or arts).
By volunteering you can discover more about yourself, your world, and your abilities and get the experience you need to find work.
You can find roles on GoVolunteer, get some training or resources online, access the library for research, and get advice via email or over the phone.

Many young people also volunteer at VA to help gain experience for their career development. Volunteering can be a great way to help yourself while you help others.
