Why do we exist ?
When someone you know or even yourself, attempts Suicide, suffers Severe Depression or is affected by Mental Illness the last thing you really want to do is cope alone.
The White Wreath Association recognizes this and in an effort to assist offers to help bridge the gap between Organizations and Individuals.
If you are having difficulties with Government Departments, Medical Professionals or Local Authorities in relation to your own or a loved one's Suicide or Mental Illness then we will help.
The White Wreath Association is a non-denominational, non-political and anti-discriminatory body supporting people who have been directly affected by suicide and those who are affected by mental illness/disorders.
The primary focus of the White Wreath Association is to raise funds in order to establish Care Facilities (Safe havens) to aid those suffering mental illness and who are suicidal.
For those left behind by these tragedies the hurt is no less traumatic and yet society's response to these surviving families and friends is vastly different from the help offered in other kinds of medical and social tragedies. Tthe families and friends of suicide victims are in as much need of help and support as other members of our Australian society and are just as deserving of our understanding and respect.
What do we do ?
The White Wreath Association aims to :
- Promote public awareness by education to the alarming increase in suicide numbers and mental illness/disorders within our society.
- Remove the unfounded myths and stigmas often associated with suicide
- Remind the whole of Australia that every life is precious. Suicide victims are not just statistics, but were dearly loved human beings, loved by their families and carers.
- Establish Safe Haven Centres where no-one is denied treatment.
We work towards making urgent changes to confidentiality laws in order to allow medical information to be given to family members caring for a mentally ill/disordered loved one.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
Our objectives are to raise sufficient funds to establish Safehaven Centres for those who want a ‘place of safety’ at times when suicide threatens.
Young people can get on board by contacting Director Fanita Clark, or check out the website and see how you can help!
Our campaign of “Sock It To Suicide” is held during the first week of October Yearly. Holding the event involves workplaces, schools, social clubs, senior citizen clubs etc to wear (self supplied) coloured socks or stockings during one day of the week, and making a donation of a gold coin for the privilege.
We would greatly appreciate your support with this endeavour and hope it is a fun day for all.
Don’t forget “Donations” are “Tax Deductible”.
Maybe you can assist our Association directly or perhaps refer our organisation to other contacts you know who may be able to assist us achieve our goal.
