Why do we exist ?
YWCAs want to make lives and communities better. Our services and programs reach women, men and children across Australia and around the world. In particular, we work to empower women to lead change.
What do we do ?
Lots of programs Australia wide. For example, the Baby Dolls program supports young mums, housing programs support young people, women and families leaving violence, we have positive body image and responsible drinking campaigns, “broads on boards” training programs (organisational boards not surf boards), and many others.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
- Finding out about programs/services they can access in their state
- Leadership roles (30% of our boards have to have women under 30 on them)
- Joining local campaigns (for example, on industrial relations changes or the Week Without Violence)
Other Stuff
- Find out about the Seventy7 Pairs of Shoes exhibition, famous types sending their shoes and making a personal statement against domestic violence. The 77 refers to the number of people killed by their intimate partner each year.
- Find out about our space for young women to come together to be inspired for life, career and community. September 21 and 22 in Melbourne.
