Why do we exist ?
To work towards eliminating the risk and impact of homelessness for young people by raising awareness of youth housing and homelessness issues and influencing government and sectorial policy and practice utilising strategies such as structural /systemic advocacy, action research, collaboration, capacity building, advocacy and campaigning.
What do we do ?
In its role as the peak organization and its membership YAA has direct communication, consultation and representation from agencies who provide services to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This occurs through the YAA board, bimonthly general meetings and policy forums, the Grapevine journal and through electronic and other local inter-agencies networks.
YAA has also established strong working relationships with relevant Government and other Nongovernmental organizations (such as Homelessness NSW ACT, NCOSS ACWA, WRRC, YAPA, Shelter NSW. NAAH). All of these relationships provide a good basis for advocating and lobbying for member organisations, young homeless people and those at risk of homelessness. On a national level YAA is a member of National Youth Coalition for Housing (NYCH) and is represented on Australian Federation of Homeless Organisations (AFHO).
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
