How do you describe your bands’ sound?
Fast and frantic
Name one song or album that totally sums you up?
Liz Phair – Exile in Guyville
What other bands influence your music?
Sleater-Kinney, Hot Snakes, The Bronx, Sonic Youth.
ActNow is all about taking action on issues that people are passionate about – so what does “action” mean to you?
Action to me means stop thinking about something and start physically doing something you are passionate about.
What issues are you passionate about?
Sexism, homophobia, racism and our government’s foreign policy
What are some hot issues in your local area?
My area is actually pretty nice – I live in North Melbourne and apart from the few drunken kids you see stumbling around there isn’t that much happening.
Do issues in the world around you effect how you write your material?
They affect the lyrics that’s for sure – we have a bunch of political songs but the main message is hidden in metaphors.
How important do you think music is to create awareness around issues that the world faces today?
Music can sometimes be the only medium that people listen and relate to. Sometimes words just need to be sung for them to sink in.
If you weren’t a musician what would you be doing?
Well I’m only a musician part-time. My day job is working in advertising.
Where do you see your band in five years time?
Hopefully having as much fun as we are now!
If you could change one thing about the world in which you live, what would it be?
I think no matter what industry you work in, everyone deserves a wage increase in accordance with rising petrol prices, interest on loans etc.
