Name: Catherine Matloub
I live: U.S.A.

About 10 years ago I saw three small words (on a paper napkin of all places!) that have stayed with me ever since... Live, Love, Laugh. I guess if someone were to ask me what my life motto is that would probably be it! Growing up my family and I moved around a lot, which helped me develop a passion for travelling and a desire to enjoy everything life has to offer!

I live in the U.S., but am currently studying abroad in Sydney and interning with ActNow.

My inspiration definitely comes  from my parents. They are without a doubt the most amazing people I have ever met! My father has spent his life treating children with cancer and doing research to find a cure After medical school my mother spent a year volunteering in hospitals in Kenya, and since then has devoted her life to our family while still managing to find time to volunteer at HOSPICE (a residential organization for people who are terminally ill) AND do cancer research as well! If in my life I can help the world half as much as one of my parents I will be proud!

My father is originally from the Middle East. He was born in Cairo around the time of the revolution in Egypt. However, his father was from Baghdad so they moved back there when he was still quite young. He was raised in Iraq and attended school in Lebanon. My grandparents and father fled from Iraq when the situation with Saddam Hussein worsened. It is largely because of my personal connections with the Middle East that I have recently taken a keen interest in learning about and raising awareness for the politics in this region today.
