Unfair on youth 18-07-2009 03:29

Yesterday I read an article on the Unleashed section of the ABC website, written by a man in his twenties about Australian politics. After responding myself to the article and reading other comments made by young people, I was disgusted to see that many of the older contributors to the discussion were fiercely targeting both the young contributors and the young man who wrote the article. One man called the young "blindingly self righteous" and "very, very dull" in response to the article. Ok, maybe we as young peope do not have the experience or knowledge to fully debate or understand national politics on a historical scale, but does that mean that we should be exempt from discussion altogether? Why is that when the young hold an opinion we are considered self righteous and our opinion is dismissed simply because of our age? How is that fair? It is fine to dismiss a comment that is unintelligent or uninformed on a discussion forum but targeting young people for having a go and contributing their view is simply ignorant and discriminative.
