Hi, I’m Laz, the corporate relations manager at Inspire and the resident Pommy. I’m responsible for looking after our corporate partners – and finding new ones!
I started working life as a journo, but soon realised that working in the non-profit sector sat better with my values. After doing some really varied and exciting roles in the sector in the UK, I then realised that the Aussie climate sat much better with my wellbeing, so I made the move! I worked for Youth Off The Streets for over three years here in Sydney, then after having my beady little eye on Inspire for a while I joined the team in November 06.
I love Australia and consider myself really lucky to live where I do. HOWEVER, attitudes towards Aboriginal people, migrant communities, asylum seekers and refugees still shock me.
I’m a volunteer settlement officer for the Mercy Refugee Service and I find the people I work with so inspiring, as they have to overcome so much to find their feet in a new culture with a new language at the same time as coming to terms with past trauma.
When I’m not working, I love chilling by the ocean, watching doco films and having a boogy – my fave day of the year is Mardi Gras for its fab costumes, music, dancing and buzz!
