I failed. I still ate so many things that I have no idea where the ingredients came from.
Tea, coffee and chocolate are definitely the easiest things I found that were fair trade.
Fruit and vegetables and rice I ate fully Australian owned and grown, and where possible, locally produced. I am assuming here that these products have been traded fairly within Australia, and that all workers are receiving an adequate and lawfully abiding wage.
In my quest to consume only fair traded goods, I found that farmers markets often provide locally produced and fair traded products. Oxfam provided me with my tea and chocolate. In my research I also found some church groups involved with fair trade and holding stalls with fair trade products.
I also did not buy clothing, but found that Oxfam sells shoes and some clothing. The Queen Victoria market also had some fair traded clothing. My skin and hair care were all either trilogy, sukin or organic instincts products that not only aim to provide organically grown and harvested products but also to impose as little damage to the environment while doing so. They are all Australian or New Zealand owned.
I will continue to search and consume fair trade products where possible. The biggest task for me now is clothing. Jewelery and scarves, even shoes I find easy to get (Oxfam), however the day to day clothing is much harder. Fair trade clothing is available over the internet but I do like to shop!
